Cub Scout Courier

Keep an eye on your mailboxes everyone!  The January edition of the Cub Scout Courier was mailed out yesterday!  It has all the information you'll need on our upcoming pack meeting--the Raingutter Regatta!  Also, everyone should have received an email from Ryan about our Blue and Gold Banquet.  This will be held on Saturday February 4th and is without a doubt our most formal pack meeting.  For the past 2 years it's been a potluck meal with no entrance fee, but this year we're tossing around the idea of having it catered with a possible entrance fee per family.  We want your feedback!  Feel free to email Ryan your thoughts or even just enter it in the comments space below!  Thanks everyone!

Happy New Year!

Worcester Sharks Game

As everyone should know by now, we have an AWESOME opportunity to go see a Worcester Sharks ice hockey game on Saturday, January 21st.  The game starts at 7pm at the DCU center.  We passed order forms out to most of you, but if you didn't get one and would like to go, please email Ryan at evannpd@charter.net NO LATER THAN January 9th!!!  Tickets are $12 per person which includes a patch for our scouts.  Money and any order forms are due to your den leader the week of January 9th, with Tuesday the 10th being our cut off date.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Ryan.  The families that went last year had a great time!  So join us for some extra special scout fun!!

Christmas party a success!!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who attended our pack meeting last night!  This was our most well-attended pack meeting yet!  Thank you to all the parents who baked for our goodies table and a very, very big thank you to Santa who was able to take time out of his very busy schedule to visit with our boys!!

Every boy who attended last night received a gift from Santa.  It was a raingutter regatta sailboat kit.  This kit will be used for our next pack meeting, on Friday, January 13th.  We will be holding a Raingutter Regatta race!  Boys should start working on making the boats according to the directions on the box.  The only rule that we have is that neither the hull or the mast of the boat may not be cut in any way.  Boys may sand and paint the hull and mast, but catamarans and other types of boats are not allowed.  More information will be coming in the next installment of your Cub Scout Courier so be on the lookout for that.  If you have any questions on how to make the boat, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Ryan LaRoche at evannpd@charter.net

MERRY CHRISTMAS PACK 118!!!

Christmas Party Friday Night!!

Don't forget about our Christmas Pack meeting/party tomorrow night, December 16 starting at 6:30 pm!  We'll have some advancements, refreshments, games, and oh yeah, Santa himself will be there!  Anyone who wants to bring refreshments may feel free to do so.  We'd certainly appreciate it!   We will also have our corn packs on sale once again to try to generate  some more camp cash!  So bring the whole family and join in the Christmas fun!!!

Important stuff!

First off, thank you to everyone who baked for our bake sale last weekend and thank you to all the scouts and parents that stuck around to sell.  Overall, we made roughly $150 for our campers!  Not only did the boys earn some money, they got some very useful customer service skills and they worked on their math!  It's a win-win!

We have some important events coming up!  Next Friday, December 16th is our Christmas pack meeting!  We will meet in the cafeteria from 6:30-8pm.  We're trying very hard to get in touch with Santa but haven't been able to do so yet.  If you know how to reach Santa, please let Ryan know!  Regardless of Santa coming to our meeting, all scouts will receive a gift as well as siblings.  We will have games, refreshments, and many boys will be receiving advancements that they've earned so far this year.  We are asking that every family who is able bring a new, unwrapped gift to donate to the town's Toys for Joy.  We've always been able to collect a huge box full of toys, so let's keep it up this year!

Also, the pack committee has heard of a very sweet 3 year old girl from Brookfield named Malia who is bravely fighting Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.  She is currently undergoing a stem cell transplant which will leave her with no immune system.  Because of this, she will be in an isolation unit through Christmas and will not be able to attend any family parties or events.  The family is trying hard to raise her spirit through Christmas cards and are asking everyone to help.  Their goal is to collect 5,000 cards and if each person puts $1 in the card they send, that raises $5,000 for Malia.  If everyone put in $5, they'd raise $25,000!  Even a simple donation of a card with well wishes will go a long way.  If you would like to send her a card (with or without a donation) here's the address...Christmas Cards for Malia--c/o Lytle and Start--83 Old E. Brookfield Rd--North Brookfield, MA  01535    Any checks should be made out to "Soccer for Kids Sake, Inc" and in the memo line please write Christmas cards for Malia.  If you'd like more information you can follow this link.  www.maliacrushescancer.com

PLEASE HELP US BAKE!!

A reminder that our bake sale is only a few days away!  Most dens didn't get a chance to see the sign up sheet for bakers/sellers for Sunday.  Please, if you can, we'd love for everyone to bake something (nothing fancy or huge) for us to sell at our bake sale!  It doesn't have to be a lot of something either.  A batch of cookies or a batch of cupcakes is perfect!  If everyone can do a little of one thing, it adds up to a lot of things and that's what we need!  Any baked goods can be brought to the school on Sunday, December 4 from 11:30am on.  You can also drop baked goods off at Ryan's house Friday or Saturday or even early Sunday if you'd rather.  Just give him a call first.  (508)867-8367. We'll be at the sale  from 12-3 selling so any scouts that want to stop by to help us sell, we'll gladly take the help!  (You'll earn some camp cash too!)  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call your den leader or Ryan the Cubmaster!  Thank you all in advance for your help and support with this event!  It's going to be a GREAT day!

White Christmas Bake Sale

Our annual Bake sale during the White Christmas celebration will be taking place next Sunday, December 4th from 12-3pm at the Elementary School.  We are looking for members of the pack to donate some baked goods to our sale.  If you'd like to bake something, please wrap items individually if possible.  This makes it much easier to sell to our customers!  Also, we're looking for some willing scouts to help us sell our baked goods.  We will also be selling more of our corn packs that we sold at the vendor fair, so we'll need scouts to sell those as well.  If you want to bake something but are not planning on working, any goods may be dropped off at the school after 11:30am Sunday morning.  If you want to arrange to drop it off with Ryan either Friday or Saturday, please give him a call at (508)867-8367 and that can be arranged. If you'd like to bake and/or work the table with us, please let Ryan know at evannpd@charter.net.  There will also be a sign up sheet at this week's den meetings if you'd rather sign up there.  Thanks everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Pack 118!  Our leaders and Committee members hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday!  This is the time of year to stop and be thankful for everything you have.  It can sometimes be hard for the boys to do that, as they tend to focus on what they don't have, but deep down inside they all know to count their blessings!  Enjoy your holiday everyone and keep an eye on the mail...our Cub Scout Courier, December edition is on it's way!

2nd annual pack 118 camp in

Don't forget that this coming weekend, November 19-20 is our 2nd annual Camp in at the school.  The party will start at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria on Saturday and will continue until Sunday morning at 9am.  Feel free to bring a tent to "pitch" in the gym!  Bring your sleeping bag and flashlight!  We will have an indoor "campfire", play some games to win the spirit stick, and watch a movie to wind down.  Don't want to stay over night?  That's fine!  Come up for the fun and leave at bedtime.  We're really trying to get our attendance up at pack meetings so come and join us for the FUN!!!!! Any questions, please contact Ryan the Cubmaster!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congratulations to all the boys that helped out at the vendor fair!  Would you believe we raised $470???!!!!  Thank you so much to everyone that helped out!  I will have camp cash certificates at our pack meeting on Saturday!  Great job guys!

Vendor fair tomorrow

Remember that tomorrow is our Vendor Fair from 9-2.  Any boys who signed up to work should be prepared to work!  Please note that you should NOT wear your scout uniform!  This is not a BSA sponsored fundraiser and so we're not "allowed" to wear them.  You may wear your Pack 118 tshirt and/or your scout hat.

Also remember that you will be there to work and not to fool around, run around, or play outside.  You will be expected to earn your camp cash by standing at the table attending to customers.  Anyone else who wants to join us-there's plenty of room so come on down!  Feel free to bring water or snacks if you plan on sticking around for a while!

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!

WBES Vendor Fair

Just a reminder that this Saturday, November 12 is the WBES Vendor Fair!  We will have our little table set up to sell our corn hot/cold packs.  Some of you signed up to work the fair, but there are still slots open if anyone else wants to join us!  The fair runs from 9-2 but we will be setting up at 8am and finishing up no later than 3 (but probably closer to 2:30).  Please feel free to come up whenever you can!  Any boy that works at the fair (and by "works" we mean actually stands  by the table, talking with customers, taking money, etc. and NOT running around, not paying attention, not actually caring, etc) will earn money for summer camp.  Boys that work the fair should have a responsible adult with them during their "shift" just in case!!  If you have any questions, email Amy at ALL4980@charter.net  Don't want to come and sell?  Please stop by and check out the fair.  The vendor fees are all donated to the school so the entire thing benefits all of us!  (maybe you can even buy one of our packs!!)  SEE YOU THEN!!!

Halloween Party a Success!!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who attended our Halloween party Friday night!  The costumes were great, the games were fun, and the slime was gross!!!  A very special thank you to everyone who helped set up and clean up!  And an even more special thank you to the Samek family here in town that donated our pumpkins for the pumpkin decorating contest!  They all looked great!  Our Webelos 1 den is the first winner of the Pack 118 Spirit Stick and will get bragging rights until our next pack meeting when another den can step in to try to win it.  Our next pack meeting will be our camp-in.  Watch for info coming on that soon!  Happy Halloween everyone!  Make sure it's fun, yet safe!

HALLOWEEN PARTY!!!!

Don't forget everyone...our Halloween Party/Pack Meeting is this Friday from 6:30-7:30 pm at the school.  We'll have lots of games, crafts, a costume contest ( so make sure you wear yours) and other spooky yet fun activities!  The whole family is invited to attend so bring them all!  Also, remember that if you get a friend who isn't a scout to join scouts, you will receive a very special and very rare recruiter patch!  So bring your family AND friends!!!

Also, the District Spookaree will be held on Saturday starting at 5pm!  Everyone should have received a flyer with info about this event.  Every boy receives a patch for attending!  This is set up similar to our party, but with one huge advantage...the entire district is there!  This is a great opportunity for our scouts to meet others from surrounding towns.  AND ITS REALLY FUN!!!  If you need any more information, please don't hesitate to contact our cubmaster!

Bobcat Badge

For all of those scouts who are new to the program this year, you should be working on earning your Bobcat badge.  The bobcat badge makes sure you're ready to work toward other scouting ranks.  You should be practicing your cub scout promise, the law of the pack, the sign, salute, handshake, and what WEBELOS means.  Mom and Dad should read over the small pamphlet in the front of your handbook that talks about child abuse.  Once you know everything and talked with an adult about the pamphlet, let your den leader know!  He/she will make sure you're comfortable and will put you in for your award!  This badge MUST be earned before you can be awarded any belt loops, rank badges, electives, etc, so work hard!
